Siva House

A contemporary extension on the eastern edge of the Great Kneighton masterplan site Aura, developed by Countryside Homes, enhances an open ended corner site and an important 'green artery' to provide secluded living spaces.

Approach

The low profile single storey design and south facing walls step to reveal a simple eaves profile surmounted by a biodiverse wild flower roof. The building plan steps inward to create a layered edge to the southern boundary. Top lit internal floors step to follow site levels releasing north and east facing walls of glass and timber to embrace a contemporary private garden. A new ground and first floor veranda articulates the original flat facade to capture distant views.

Planning

A key aspect to unlocking the layout was to minimise the need for unwanted circulation. By placing the new living spaces between gardens either side, each space flows into another, increasing awareness of the outside. A large sliding roof aperture at the center of the plan draws in daylight creating a calming atmosphere to internal spaces.

Interior design

The interiors manifest from the external architecture and structure, simply finished in neutral and earth tones to add a sense of calm and light. The resulting spaces are relaxed and inviting.
